I have a 66 bug with a 1641 engine im having carb problems. I have a 34 pic-3 and im thinking of upgrading. I dont know if i should go dual webers or a single 2 barrel weber or I see empi makes there own version of the 34 pic 3 what would be the best way to go.thanks

What distributor do you have ? but for sure no Empis. dual Weber 40 is great but a single one is enough for a 1641 (better mileage too). For me the perfect combination will be a dual Kadron.
But this is just me

I have the 009 with compu-fire electronic ignition. I heard the kadrons go out of sync all the time but the webers stay in sync. I was thinking of going with the 2 barrel progressive weber. Do the empis have a back rep. I havent heard anything about them.

single weber progressive or dual weber single barrel carbs, dual kadrons are good to. all dual carbs will get out of sync if you dont have the right linkage or if you dont set them up right. always remember there is more vw than just buy parts and putting them on and hoping thing will work right all the time. and you will need to pay more for the better linkage than what comes in the kit.

What is the problem you are having? Was it running decent before and now it is failing? 009 dizzy is not a good choice with that carb...it leaves a flat spot in the acceleration. More details please.

It bogs out. I have to feather the pedal in all the gears to get it going. If i just step on the pedal it will basically just bog and die. 1st and 2nd gear are really bad. 3rd and 4th i dont have to feather it as much but i still cant just step on the pedal like normal. I have to get the rpms up when taking off from a stop and work the clutch. If i dont it will start lurching and bogging. hope that all made sense.

It looks like a timing problem to me, did you moved your distributor ?

has the problem always been there or did it start after changing something around? Or did it just start out of the blue?

could be a number of things. sorry to ask for all this info but it helps to pin-point the problem.

Its been that way since i got the car. I put a rebuilt kit in it but it didnt make a difference. Ive messed with the distributor it didnt do anything. Its got to be in the carb. I did talk to the guys at so. cal imports about different carbs they said the best route be be a set of dual 40 webers. They said they have instant response and that the single 2 barrel set up tend to have a flat spot thats really hard to get rid of. sorry it took so long to respond but i have limited time to use the computer. My girlfriend is doing a online college class and she always has it with her.
